EMMELINE PANKHURST: ANGEL OR ANARCHIST?
This powerful one woman show, starring acclaimed actress Liz Grand, brings to life the extraordinary story of Emmeline Pankhurst, one of the most influential and iconic British women in history. A tireless champion of women’s rights, Pankhurst led the fight for women to gain the vote, enduring multiple imprisonments and undertaking numerous hunger strikes in the name of equality.
After nearly thirty years of being ignored by Parliament, she famously turned to Direct Action. Under her leadership, the Suffragettes escalated their campaign—throwing stones at politicians, setting fire to letter boxes, damaging property, and chaining themselves to railings—to make their voices impossible to ignore.
Although their determination ultimately succeeded, the path to victory came at a great personal cost to many brave women. And despite her pivotal role, Emmeline herself was not universally admired. Some argued that the more confrontational methods delayed, rather than accelerated, progress.
This performance offers a compelling, intimate portrait of a woman whose courage reshaped history—and of a movement that changed the world.

Power To The People - Tom Heap
Tom Heap, author, BBC Countryfile, BBC Radio 4’s Rare Earth, and Sky News’ Climate Show presenter, will bust media peddled myths about the cost of green energy, the unpopularity of climate action, the role of China and the unshakeable dominance of fossil fuels. But he will also aim a couple of swipes at dogmatic environmentalists.
Tom lays out a reset to the climate message: it can now be selfish, not selfless. It doesn’t even need to be about climate, just cost.
“Houses have solar panels; villages own wind turbines and countries harness the elements that bless their land. ‘Going Green’ is portrayed as pricey medicine administered from above – something done to you. But it can and should be done with you. And now that works.” Tom Heap
Expect storytelling, insight, humour and genuine optimism - exploring how people across the UK are fixing what’s broken and building a greener future. A perfect evening for fans of talks, ideas and meaningful conversation.

The Doric String Quartet
The Doric String Quartet brings elegance and intimacy both to the Classical canon and new music, with the depth and integrity of their interpretations winning them fans across the world. Having performed complete cycles of Haydn, Mendelssohn and Bartók at the most prominent European venues, including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Vienna Konzerthaus and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the players have turned their attention to Beethoven and Britten. The first instalment of their Beethoven cycle was released in 2023, and was praised by The Times as ‘a joy’. The series culminates in 2026–27, in time for the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death.
Their intellectual rigour has led them to use specially made original-style bows for performing Classical repertoire from Haydn to Mendelssohn. While they are known for their refined performances of this repertoire, they are also committed to new music, performing works by composers such as Brett Dean, Thomas Adès, Héloïse Werner, Eleanor Alberga and Andrea Tarrodi. Their curiosity and flexibility are represented by a discography of more than 20 recordings for Chandos, with whom they have recorded exclusively since 2010, ranging from Purcell to John Adams.
The quartet often performs repertoire for string quartet and orchestra. This includes Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro and John Adams’ Absolute Jest, which has become a firm part of its repertoire since it gave the Austrian premiere at Vienna Konzerthaus with Vienna Symphony Orchestra and John Adams.
In the 2025–26 season, the quartet return to Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Wigmore Hall, make its debut at Shanghai Symphony Hall and present the complete Britten cycle at De Bijloke in Ghent, commemorating 50th years since the composer’s death.
