1 DAY PLEATED LAMPSHADE WORKSHOP In 1 day you will learn the skills needed to make a pleated lampshade with a balloon lining and contrasting bias trim.
This style of lampshade usually takes 2 days so in order for us to finish in a day you will provided with a pre cut lining in white cotton lawn . You will need to bring pre-cut fabric, to specified measurements. It is important this is done before you come to ensure you finish .
You will learn how to bind the frame , how a pattern for the lining can be measured, how to mark out the frame and lining for pleats. We then move on to pinning and sewing by hand the fabric in place for the pleated fabric. This is followed by machine sewing our balloon lining and securing this in position before stitching by hand. The final phase is marking out and sewing our bias binding to fit snuggly on the top and bottom frame before then being shown different techniques to secure it in place.
Previous hand sewing experience would be beneficial but not essential

Cast | Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel, Dick Shawn

Quite possibly one of the funniest films ever made, Mel Brooks's cult comic masterpiece sees a down-on-his-luck producer and a mild-mannered accountant hatch an ill-fated scheme to get rich quick by creating a truly terrible musical.

Failing producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) and his accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder) aim to scam a group of elderly women out of their nest eggs by convincing them to invest in a horrendously offensive Third Reich-themed musical that’s secretly intended to bomb the moment it opens. But when highbrow Broadway audiences mistakenly assume ‘Springtime for Hitler’ is a satire, Bialystock finds himself with the critical acclaim that has long eluded him – and the biggest hit of his career!

FAMILIAR TOUCH (12A) Dir: Sarah Friedland | USA | 2025 | 92 mins
Cast | Kathleen Chalfant, Carolyn Michelle Smith, Andy McQueen, H. Jon Benjamin

A retired cook, Ruth (Kathleen Chalfant) prepares breakfast. It’s a dish she’s often made before, but she keeps making mistakes. When her son (H. Jon Benjamin) arrives, she mistakes him for a suitor, and their “date” takes them to an assisted living facility, where Ruth feels certain she does not belong. But as she slowly begins to accept the support of the facility’s care workers, she finds new ways to ground herself in her body, even as her mind embarks on a journey all its own.
Writer-director Sarah Friedland’s exquisite “coming-of-old-age” debut compassionately follows the winding path of Ruth’s shifting memories and desires. Shot on location at a retirement community in California, and boasting a masterful performance from Chalfant, Familiar Touch is a quietly radical portrait of a woman living with dementia that eschews the usual tropes, instead prioritising Ruth’s perspective throughout.

HEN (15) Dir: György Pálfi | Hungary, Germany, Greece | 2025 | 98 mins | Subtitled
Cast | Ioannis Kokiasmenos, Maria Diakopanagioti, Argyris Pantazaras

A determined Leghorn chicken flees life on a Greek factory farm in cult director György Pálfi’s (Hukkle, Taxidermia) adroit, impressive Hen.
Shot from its feathered heroine’s point of view, Hen sees our plucky protagonist find her way to a crumbling seaside restaurant. At first it seems a place of refuge, but there, she quickly becomes witness to the human tragedies unfolding around her as the restaurant is caught up in greed, smuggling and the migrant crisis.
Drawing parallels between people’s ill-treatment of animals and each other, Hen recalls Jerzy Skolimowski’s EO and Andrea Arnold’s documentary Cow in its compelling use of an innocent animal protagonist – imbued with real emotion and personality – to shed new light on broader systemic issues.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - NYT Joseph follows the biblical tale of Jacob’s favourite son, Joseph, whose prophetic dreams spark jealousy among his eleven brothers. Sold into slavery, he endures hardship, imprisonment, and a rather surreal encounter with an Elvis-inspired Pharaoh before rising to power in Egypt. It’s insane storytelling set to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s genre-hopping score, and delivered at breakneck speed. It’s half parable, half pop-concert, and entirely committed to entertaining its audience for every second of its running time. Dates: Mon 29, Tue 30 Booking and More Information
K'Antu - Music In Quiet Places Embark on a vibrant musical voyage through the Age of Discovery—a time when European explorers set sail in search of new worlds, trade, and treasure, sparking a cultural exchange that would shape the globe.

K’antu Ensemble invites you on a journey through the glittering courts of Renaissance Europe, where the Elizabethan elite were captivated by exquisite lute songs and elegant dance music. Performed by a quartet of K’antu Ensemble’s award-winning players, this programme traces the musical connections between England, Continental Europe, and the New World—from the refined courts of Spain and England to the distant missions of South America.

Singer Ruth Hopkins is known for interspersing performances with quirky facts and vivid quotes from historic manuscripts, bringing the stories, characters, and contexts behind the music to life.
Expect lively dances from both court and countryside, haunting melodies from the Cancionero de Palacio, and rare gems from the Codex Martínez Compañón—a remarkable Peruvian manuscript illuminating the fusion of Indigenous and European traditions.

And of course, no early music programme would be complete without the most prolific composer of them all: Anon. A mystery to us still, but evidently a firm favourite of scribes, performers, and publishers alike.
Join K’antu Ensemble for an evening of discovery, diversity, and delight.

ROSE OF NEVADA (15) Dir: Mark Jenkin | UK | 2025 | 114 mins
Cast | George MacKay, Callum Turner, Francis Magee, Edward Rowe

Bait director Mark Jenkin returns with a mysterious time-travelling odyssey, shot in painterly 16mm and starring George MacKay (1917) and Callum Turner (Emma).
30 years ago, the Rose of Nevada was lost at sea with all hands. When it reappears in the harbour of a rundown Cornish fishing village, it feels like a sign: if the Rose sets sail again, perhaps the village’s luck will turn. Nick (George MacKay) takes a job aboard, joined by drifter Liam (Callum Turner). The boat and its voyage are symbols of hope, but when Nick and Liam dock again, something strange has happened – instead of moving into the future, they have re-entered the past.
Rose of Nevada is an unconventional story about grief, identity and the vagaries of time. Like Bait, it’s shot in 16mm (though this time in bold colour) and delights in distinctive texture and composition in a way that makes it feel like a found object – a film by and of Cornwall and the sea.

THE CHRISTOPHERS (15) Dir: Steven Soderbergh | USA, UK | 2025 | 100 mins
Cast | Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, Jessica Gunning, James Corden

Sir Ian McKellen and I May Destroy You‘s Michaela Coel spar in Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh’s (Out of Sight, Traffic, Magic Mike) incisive chamber comedy of art and avarice, supported by Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning and James Corden.

Lori (Coel) divides her time between art restoration and work in a food truck. Her lacklustre fortunes change when she’s approached by the estranged heirs (Gunning, Corden) of brilliant painter Julian Sklar (McKellen) with an exciting proposition: Lori will steal a series of abandoned paintings (‘The Christophers’) from Sklar’s home, complete them and reap a percentage once the paintings are sold after Sklar’s imminent death. What could possibly go wrong?
Brilliantly scripted by Ed Solomon, blisteringly performed by an acerbic McKellen and a cagey Coel, The Christophers is a witty, exhilarating and complex new offering from Soderbergh that serves up thorny truths about youth and old age, artistic integrity and legacy.
